Thank you for continuing to support your children and the total school program. Because of your team work, our Tiger scholars are doing a great job of preparing for the next grade level and for the FCAT. Our February 2nd Parent Night was well attended, with over 90 families represented! Our school’s emphasis on rigorous academic standards and family involvement will pay major dividends in the lives of our scholars.
Our upper grade students are preparing to take their state assessment (FCAT) in the next few months. The “cut score” for passing the FCAT has risen this year. This means working harder and being in school each day are key success strategies for our scholars. Our fourth grade scholars will be taking the Writing FCAT on Tuesday, February 28th. In preparation for this test, we will have multiple “practice” FCAT writing prompts in the upcoming days. It is very important that we practice all test taking skills before the actual test is administered. Classroom teachers are doing an excellent job as they deliver instruction. We meet weekly (sometimes daily) to share strategies and to discuss assessment results which drive classroom instruction. We also meet frequently with the students to encourage, celebrate, and remind them of school expectations. If we continue to work hard and believe in our children, we will be successful.
As parents, there are numerous ways that you can help to ensure your child’s success. A few examples are:
Have your child in school and on time every day.
Make sure that your scholar is reading every day on their appropriate reading level. Your child or your child’s teacher can provide you with his/her reading level.
Schedule and attend parent-teacher conferences. Also, attend our monthly Parent Night workshops.
Be involved. Read the weekly newsletters that are sent home each Monday and respond appropriately to the materials. Teachers provide valuable tips that you can use to assist at home.
Thank you again for your continued support.
Educationally yours,
