Tiger Academy students made history on June 25 as they came to an important milestone in their educational journey. The students completed their first year at a YMCA charter school in Jacksonville, Florida, which is the first of its kind in Northwest Duval County. We are proud that our students completed 200 days of school, which translates to 1,500 hours, 90,000 minutes, or 5,400,000 seconds of education. What a marvelous journey our students made this year!
As we watched our students strive for success academically, they experienced a number of unique opportunities during this inaugural school year. The students received a personal visit from Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in May, and many prominent community leaders throughout the year including CEOs of major companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield. Our students were part of major community events such as the KaBoom! Playground Build, where 275 volunteers from the YMCA, the Tiger Family, and the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group built a playground in just one day. Additionally, local celebrity Chef Robert taught our second graders about nutritious food and cooking; our first graders received instruction in golf; and our second graders learned how to play lacrosse! During the Christmas holiday season, all students traveled to the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts to watch The Nutcracker. Finally, on June 25, 72 of our students became the first graduating Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes of Tiger Academy.
We would like to extend a special “thank you” to our parents for choosing Tiger Academy. The decision to send your children to here is one step in providing them with an excellent educational journey.
